What’s with all these Wednesday night games at least 5 I counted.

  2. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

When do we play Toledo? Anyone want to ask Savage?

  3. iluvhockey Says:

    7 Wednesday night games. YUCK!!!

  4. Pixelcraft Says:

Work sucks. Wednesday night games give me something to break the week up with. :-)

  5. Hoss Says:

That is a whole lot of Bloomington!!!

  6. J-Rid Says:

Ya, now Bloomington is the Elmira of last year. “You’re so…farrrrrr away”

  7. J-Rid Says:

There are two times in which we go to Muskegon on a Friday, down to Bloomington on Saturday, then back up to K-Zoo on Sunday. Shouldn’t K-Zoo and Bloomington have traded places there?

  8. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

But they were able to sit down in a room together and work these things out so they would make sense…..not a computer doing it. It is Fan Friendly and Economic Friendly for the teams. Right? This is the new IHL. Schedules will be smarter, product will be better, more physical hockey, rule changes, financially stronger league, etc.

I think it is still wait and see. I want it to succeed and be great. They have a long way to go yet. Players better get sold on this league better than what the fans have so far. They need to market, market and market some more. Better than what they have so far.

  9. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Found this from Mr. Savage in Flint…..

“New commissioner Paul Pickard said the Hounds have until Aug. 1 to inform the IHL whether they plan to remain in the league and field a team in 2008-09. If not, they can return their shares to the league. I can’t remember if that’s been written about anywhere so I thought I’d share just in case.”

  10. Charlie I Says:

this can’t be any worse then a 3 team league ( suppose to be 5) starting this fall known as the MAHL.

  11. What a joke Says:

Did anyone see that weekend in February where the Ks have to play at Bloomington on the 17th, at muskegon on the 22nd, then BACK to Bloomington on the 23rd and to top it off… let’s drive all the way back to Kzoo on the 24th. You call that economic friendly for the team? I call it a joke… This league is falling apart and going nowhere. I know it’s been said many times before but Fort Wayne is a first class organization and they belong in the AHL or ECHL. The Fort Wayne fans are getting robbed because of poor management. Don’t get fooled by what the Frankes say to make it look so good. I guess they’ll get it when no one shows up for the 16th meeting between 2 teams who won’t even want to be there themselves.

Finally, how good is that league going to be with most of the best players gone? Money could help bringing quality players and give the league a chance but apparently they can’t match offers from the CHL, a league that has a lower salary cap. ???????

    Poor fans

  12. Tony E Says:

The doom and gloom predictions are laughable. The casual fan that goes to 3-5 games a year could care less who the Komets are playing or how many times they played each other before.
Perhaps “joke” you would prefer the Komets go dark for a year or two until the AHL gets their economics straight so the Komets can have a real opportunity there.
This sounds like all of the crying that happened years ago when the Komets left the I for the U.
There will be good players in this league next year even if 99% of them are guys you have never heard of at this point.
Ah the bashing of the Frankes continues. It is their fault that the league lost teams. It is their fault that the economics of the AHL make it impossible to make the move now. It is their fault people in Fort Wayne are too cheap to pay ticket prices high enough to cover the costs of the move.
Be careful what you wish for. If the Frankes were to sell the team in the current climate Fort Wayne would probably be without a hockey team within 2-3 years. Nobody is going to buy a team in this economic climate where you get little to nothing from parking and food concessions.
Here is an idea. How about waiting until the season starts before throwing shots at the league or the Frankes? How about going to a game before throwing shots at the league or the Frankes? How about having a CLUE of what the economic climate of minor league hockey is right now and where it will be 5 years from now before throwing shots at this league or the Frankes?
Cripe even Cubs fans don’t b*tch this much and they certainly have good reason to!

  13. HSIRI Says:

Tony, I don’t post on here very often I just read all the stupid things people write. I will have to say I agree with your comments 99 percent of the time. This would be another time I agree with you. You always seem to be the voice of reason, and you don’t make disparaging comments about the other bloggers. How can people complain about the schedule? It’s a schedule. Give the Komets and the IHL a chance.

  14. Burgee Says:

    Right on Tony.

Tony for Governor of the Sovereign nation of Indiana.

  15. What a joke Says:

Ok maybe there some things you don’t know… Do you know why they don’t go to the AHL or ECHL?! Think about it for a second. Why would they try SO hard to start a new league of their own and risk to lose one of the best minor pro hockey franchise? The smart move would be to join a league that is stable enough to make your franchise even better. The fans of Fort Wayne would love to see young players play for more than their weekly paycheck. Because that’s what the UHL was and the IHL will be even worse for that. Not one player who aspires to make the jump to a higher league will play in the IHL. Trust me.

So back to the point. Why would you go through such complicated steps to build a new league when you could make your franchise better by joining a league that make sense. Maybe you should ask the Frankes how much money they owe to the organization who runs those leagues. Then maybe you would have a better answer.

You tell me the AHL is a bad market?! Maybe in places like Peoria but there are many franchise who do very well. Just look at the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg. They pretty much average the same crowd and they are very far from every other team. Winnipeg is not that much bigger than Fort Wayne. But they manage to do well.

Fort Wayne has a great fan base. It could be even better if every year they had guys who one night played for the Ks and the next one in Columbus against Detroit. There would be that much more hype. Maybe then they wouldn’t mind paying a little more to watch real hockey and who knows, maybe a few next ones. As for now, it is very understandable for the fans to not like the high price of going to a 6 team league who promises to be more of a wrestling contest than real hockey, a game closer to the NHL level.

I wish the fans knew more about how it really is behind the scenes.

  16. Greg Says:

That’s half of the point, we don’t know the real story so we have to trust what those who do know and that are in the know tell us.

  17. Tony E Says:

“Joke” Believe me I know more than you realize about “behind the scenes” of the hockey world. I have connections at all levels both in the USA and Canada.
I have been to a Moose game and you are correct it is a great market and I have signed more than one petition to get an NHL team back in Winnipeg.
I can tell you though that the AHL is nowhere near stable. Several franchises are struggling and now they added markets like Rockford and Quad City Heck the only reason Quad City is even there is because the Flames are going to cover most of any financial losses the team has. Most NHL teams are not willing to make arrangements like that.
Back to economics, where is the money going to come from to charter that plane flight out to Winnipeg? Do you realize how much the team insurance costs will go up if they have to start flying?
Let me tell you what I see in the future for the AHL.
Not too long ago it was a league with no teams west of the Mississippi and the majority along the east coast including many teams in the Maritimes. It is heading back that way.
The Canadian dollar will soon be at par with the U.S. dollar and there is even a possibility could be more valuable by the end of this decade if prices on natural resources continue to rise.
You are going to see a return to citys like Moncton. St John, St Johns and other Canadian cities who supported their teams but lost them because when the CDN dollar was only worth 60 cents U.S. they could not stay afloat. When that shift happens it will remain to be seen if Rockford, Quad City et all will be east enough for that league or if they are on an island much like Elmira was.
In the next few years there will be a second true AAA league much like there was with the AHL and IHL before. At that point you take the six stable new IHL teams and bring in Quad Cities, Peoria, Rockford as well as the Chicago AHL franchise and you now have a 10 team league that can be a second AAA league while keeping travel costs down. The AHL will remain an eastern USA/Canada league.

It makes no sense for the Komets to do anything but stay where they are for a year or two until the rest of the minor league landscape settles. Then believe me there will be a place for them in AAA hockey.

  18. Junior Says:

Go back to what Tony E said: “why don’t you go see a game before you complain?” Is that really asking too much? It’s the middle of July.

Wait another 5 years like Tony said, then we’ll see where everyone is at……As for the AHL Moose, Manitoba is in CANADA!! I’ve heard that people really enjoy watching hockey in CANADA.

  19. Jungle Monkey Says:

The Franke’s owe the players association money. It’s been well documented.

  20. Junior Says:

It’s been a while JM, do they still owe that money? I’m guessing a big fat yes!

  21. Greg Says:

The Frankes did everything they could to keep the Komets at the AAA level in the old I. It brought them to near financial ruin. Do think they would wantto risk that again. If they could guarnette success, I would wager they would be first in line to get the AHL franchise for Fort Wayne. It is still a business and that means making money.

  22. Tony E Says:

By the way I hate to let facts get in the way of a good story but the 2006 population of the Winnipeg (and believe me, like Fort Wayne 5 minutes out of town you hit what is called the perimeter highway which circles the city then there is nothing but farms and prairies) is over 648,000
    Fort Wayne has what, 200,000?

  23. Greg Says:

Plus what other competition do the Moose have in the city? Maybe a couple of junior teams? The Blue Bombers play mostly during the summer (CFL Football for all those who don’t know). The Komets have all the high schools to deal with, football and basketball, the Fusion in the spring, the new minor league basketball team during the same period.

  24. Blake Says:

“I don’t care what you say, people in Fort Wayne won’t pay for it. That’s unless you can charge the same price you do for the UHL, and then you won’t be around for very long.” — Eddie Long.

We are indeed one cheap town. Maybe that’s partly because we complain at any hint of price increase.

  25. Greg Says:

    Ain’t that the truth.

  26. Tony E Says:

Greg is correct. University hockey draws ok but that is it. Winters on the prairies are about hockey and curling. Part of the reason the Moose draw so well is people believe that the NHL will see the light and bring a team back. Sadly as long as Dracula ERRRRRR Gary is the commish I doubt there will be any NHL teams going back to Canada.

  27. Junior Says:

That’s the thing that I don’t understand about all these people thinking that this is the worst (IHL) idea/decision ever. Since when was the NHL style of play successful? Last I can remember is around 1995 and they are still unable to get it right. They’re thinking of expanding 3 years after a lockout??!?!?!?!?!? Who’s to say we have to follow their rules anyways? The I is focusing on traditional hockey, what a crazy obscure concept. The U has never had much talent, and either will the I. But if they are hustling after each puck, that would put it a step above the U in my book. The skill might not be there, but maybe we can get some guys that don’t enjoy standing around and watching the puck fly past them.

  28. Junior Says:

Bettman’s an idiot, plain and simple…ruined the NHL.

  29. What a joke Says:

Here’s the thing Junior and please trust me on that one. Hockey players DO want to play an NHL style. I don’t know what’s wrong with all the people who want more fighting. Go to a boxing match if that’s what you want. Physical play can be dominant but the main goal still remains to score more goals than the opponent.

And Tony E, I don’t think everything you say is wrong, but I know alot about how the Frankes run their team and they only have one goal: make money. So is the league. They make you play 3 games in 3 nights even 4 in 5 and if you remember last year the Ks played 5 games in 6 nights between Christmas and New Year!!!! That’s ridiculous!! They don’t respect the players. All they want is make money. And it has gone so far now that they lost control. They don’t understand how important it is to respect the players. They are the ones giving a show every night. If the show is bad people won’t go watch. It’s very simple.

But can’t you really blame the Frankes? They are running the same system as your government. They lie to make everything look so good. That way they fool you and put more money in their pockets.

Tony you talk about waiting 5-6 years. I can understand your point of view. But it’s a circle. It will need to have 5 strong years to keep their fan base and gain credibility. Because right now trust me, it has none to the players nor other leagues around them. And if you want my opinion the CHL is way ahead of the IHL in becoming the next AAA league.

To the person who wrote that Winnipeg is in Canada and that’s why they do better, it makes no sense at all. The number of fans is the same at the rink every night.

I’ll end with a question: Why do you think no one wants to come back to Fort Wayne this year after last year’s great season? Except Guy who of course will always say the right things to keep everyone on his side. Don’t forget his wife and family are in Fort Wayne so he was going nowhere. Funny how there is a whole new crew to run this year’s team. Nice way to shut up everyone who were disappointed of last year’s ending.

Oh and one last thing… David Franke is so optimistic about his team saying last year they didn’t even have a coach at this time of the year. Let me remind you who did all the recruiting: Bruce Richardson. He kept Frenchy from leaving and brought in Larocque, Goneau, Kiyaga, Gascon, Morency, Syro and Labarre. They were all last minute signings. Take Frenchy, Larocque, Bruce and Morency out of the lineup and you have a very different team!

Can’t wait to see their next move

No one wants to go play in the IHL.

  30. J-Rid Says:

How do the Komets know what Port Huron’s new logo is and not anybody else, including Port Huron? Or did they just use Adirondack’s old one for the time being?

  31. Skate Says:

    OK, JOKE, OK.

You ask all sorts of questions in your posts, implying that you have the answers. Then, of course, you’re off somewhere else without giving us the facts. You ask, “Do you know why they don’t go to the AHL or ECHL?! Think about it for a second. Why would they try SO hard to start a new league of their own and risk to lose one of the best minor pro hockey franchise?” Well, TELL US, if you really know. Not what you THINK, tell us the real reason.

You say you “know alot about how the Frankes run their team and they only have one goal: make money.” Oh yeah, what’s the source of your inside information? Based on the tone of your post and your apparent attitude toward the Frankes and the league, I am QUITE sure the Frankes are consulting you and keeping you in their inner circle on all matters of critical importance.

Gee, what a novel idea, trying to run a business to make money. You make it sound like a Class A felony. I am sure you run the business you own with the intention of making decisions which will lose you money.

Your comment “Maybe you should ask the Frankes how much money they owe to the organization who runs those leagues. Then maybe you would have a better answer.” If you are going to make an allegatiuon like this, you had better be able to back it up. I challenge you to do so, RIGHT NOW! Give us specific, accurate facts and figures — not the rumors so prevalant in your posts. If you can’t, don’t make an attack or an insinuation like this again.

Lastly, you say “(The Frankes) don’t respect the players.” Didn’t Bruce Richardson, the guy you credit with recuiting all the key components of the team last year just say the Komets were the best organization he has ever played for?

Give us true facts and back up your allegations with numbers and information that can be verified in your future posts.

  32. Komets PA Says:

    Hey Skate,

I wonder if Joke takes trips to New York on a whim? The ranting sounds awfully familiar.

  33. J-Rid Says:

Hey Larry, are you in session 2 at The Plex starting in a few weeks?

  34. to joke Says:

You are WAY OFF base on that recruiting statement you made.

  35. Komets PA Says:

    J-Rid,

Not sure if I’m playing next session or not. I’ll let ya know.

  36. Skate Says:

Komets PA is looking at an offer from the FLEX in Wichita for next session.

  37. Skate Says:

    Komet PA –

Yeah, I do know it’s real easy to post under any name you want on here — from anywhere. I don’t care what name they use, but if they’re gonna make accusations and insinuate there’s some shady dealings or other things going on, if they really had an insight into something like that, they’d post it.

I don’t think this would be our NY traveller though. I think he’s way off base on almost everything he says, but I do’t put him on being the kind of guy who is afraid to sign his posts.

  38. Skate Says:

At any rate, let’s see if he DOES provide concrete evidence to back up what he hints at as I asked (DEMANDED!) he do in my response.

If he can, I’m anxious to read it.

If not, well, I don’t think it will be any big surprise, but he’ll have to come up with a new name for his next posts, ’cause no one will believe anything he says (as if they do now.)

  39. Junior Says:

Looks like Skate took care of that, and we shall wait for a response.

Now, on to regular blog business:

Komets PA, you should bring back the Rock n Roll part 2 song. KWarrior, I’m missing my OHIC news, could you possibly get a web cam of some sort to broadcast?
Is Cheif coming back? and finally, why didn’t anyone help Hansen in Elmira?

Please forward all responses to intheknow@ohicnews.com

  40. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Is Enema Man making any kind of comeback this season? He is one tough arse Mascot! He beats the crap out of everyone!

  41. Tony E Says:

There is a “good” reason why people bash the Franke family for making money while running a hockey team. Simply put, a huge percentage of minor league owners lose money and so it is the fault of the Franke family for running their business succesfully. Of course the trade off is that because they do make money you don’t have to worry one year to the next if hockey will be around in Fort Wayne but dangit, how dare they turn a profit!!

  42. Marv Says:

What a joke is right. finally a voice of reason risises up out of somewhere. I thought I was the only one that wanted to see the AHL in town. What a joke is right about the League and the Frankies just wanting to make money.

Do you guys really want to see this new league (IHL) over say the AHL hockey? I can’t believe you would if you really knew more about that league.

Somebody also said in one of the earlier comments about the AHL not being so stable. It’s the most stable hockey league in North America because of one reason. It’s backed by the NHL and their money. You can’t get any better than that. If the NHL is unstable then the AHL will be unstable but with the NHL backing it up its good to go.

  43. Tony E Says:

Hi Marv. Who are these Frankies of which you speak?

  44. Tony E Says:

Oh and we all know just how stable the NHL is right now with Nashville, Phoenix, Florida and a few other franchises on life support.

  45. What a joke Says:

Tony, you just listed 3 teams out of 30. We all know the NHL has too many teams right now anyway. Who had the “great” idea of bringing an NHL team in country town?! As for Florida and Phoenix, maybe a winning team would help for once. Just like everywhere else put a winning team on the ice and people will show up. Except Toronto and Montreal obviously. They sell out every night.

Skate, I don’t have a written evidence that the Frankes owe money to the players association but I know 100% they do. I know most of you don’t believe anything I say and it’s not my goal anyway. I am just tired of seeing you fans who show up every night and make the Frankes rich while in fact they are lying and fooling you all the way with stories that make me and others laugh everyday. I just throw it out there and you take what you want. If I get you to think and be a little more critical then my job is done.

And Skate, there is a difference between making money the right way and the wrong way. I’ll explain. You fans go out there and pay to watch hockey. You also buy beer and food. It is not cheap but you still go because you like the sport. But don’t you want to get your money’s worth? Don’t you want a quality experience every night you show up at the Coliseum. Right now you THINK you are because the Frankes are putting you to sleep. It’s so expensive to run a AHL team bla bla bla. I’ll help you read through the lines… “If we had an AHL team we would have less in our pockets” At the cost of who? THE FANS. You lose all the way. They put you to sleep with stories like the IHL is going to be huge… things like “We are extremely happy of how things are going” “We have 6 strong owners” bla bla bla. They had the same speech with the players at the end of the year. Where are they now? All gone… or almost all gone. They’re not stupid. They see all the shit that happens.

To Joke: I am not off base. Ask any of the players. Every guy I listed came from Bruce’s recruiting. He worked with his agent and friends to bring all of these guys in.

And yes Bruce will say in the papers Fort Wayne was the best organization he’s played for, he’s being politically correct. If it was so great, why isn’t he back?!? Don’t get me wrong, they don’t do everything wrong. Fort Wayne is a great franchise. Most of it because of its fan base and how lucky they are to have a first class building. Anyone see in the papers when Mr. David Franke wrote if Bruce wanted to coach there one day he had to play there to do so?!??! That’s the funniest thing I have ever read. Think Bruce was going to go after that? Hey Mr. Franke, put a contract on the table for Bruce to coach in 3 years and sign it maybe he’ll go. What kind of strategy was that? How low can you go?!

I’m sorry I can’t tell why I know all this or why I am so sure of everything. I have too much to lose. But enough is enough, something had to be said. Just so you know I’m on your side. I want the best hockey possible in Fort Wayne so the fans (great fans) of this team can enjoy more than a SPHL type of hockey.

I’m not here to argue all day about this. You think what you want. If you are comfortable living in ignorance just pretend you never read this. But please do me a favor and stop believing everything that’s being said by them. Just like our great president and its government. Be critical.

  46. Tony E Says:

You will forgive me without any sources or any facts to back up your statements you are just offering opinions under a random blog name. No matter how you say it without putting your name and the names of your sources on the table they are just words in cyberspace which you are of course free to express.
Phoenix and Florida will NEVER make it because nobody living in those areas in the winter cares about the local team! There are more Canadian citizens living in most of those areas in the winter than American. Those people root for their home teams. Check out the attendance figures when a Canadian or original six team shows up in Florida, Tampa or Phoenix. To some extent the same can be said for Nashville. To my surprise the Sharks and Ducks seem to have made it though it would not surprise me if their finances are not all that great.
I too want the best possible hockey in Fort Wayne so why not campaign for an NHL team? I mean why not complain the Frankes have not tried to get the Predators to move to Fort Wayne? I have already explained to you what the landscape of hockey is going to be. If the Komets join the AHL they may again be looking for another league in a few years because the AHL will not want to travel that far west. There is no sense being critical of the IHL when they have not played a single game yet.
If you are tired of seeing the fans and are so against the Frankes, stay away from the games. To do otherwise would make you no better than everyone else who goes.
I think the best thing for you and Marv to do is organize a picket . You can get lessons from the redcoats in how to use laminated signs for crowd control.

Argh to late and too tired for this. Goodnight.

P.S. this is a newspaper blog not ITB so you might want to clean up your language.

  47. Ed Says:

What a Joke…. Let me understand you are 100% sure the Frankes owe the player’s assoc money but do not have proof. That is like me saying, there are gold coins laying on Clinton Street but I don’t have any proof…..

I can not believe you even attend a game without getting ill.

If a NHL team beleived the fan base was so great and would allow a NHL team to break even or make a few bucks they would buy the Franke family out.

I hope like heck the Franke family is making money because they put the countless hours in to make it a go. They are the ones who depend on making enough money to make house payments, educate their children and even pay their taxes. Gosh, it is so sad someone would want to do that over the cost of you seeing an AHL team here for a couple of years.

WHAT A JOKE… you are not a joke because a joke is funny!

I think I am going to go outside now and watch my brown grass grow.

  48. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Which disgruntled player might this be that is unwilling to tell us who he is? Seems like last offseason we had a couple of players floating things on here about being unhappy here. Any ideas Blake?

I still contend that Komet Warrior is a former-player that likes to come on here and play stupid to stir things up. In fact I am sure of it.

Everyone will discount what this guy is saying…but what if he knows something that we don’t know?

I am comfortable with giving the IHL a try and seeing what happens. My only concern is the players we get and what product it turns out to be. Promises about physical entertaining hockey is a normal thing every off-season. If it happens great….what talent level will be in this league is another problem. Tons of guys have signed in the CHL and beyond and it makes one wonder what will be left at the bottom of the barrel at the end of the summer.

I will stay optimistic. I still think that this league has a whole lot of things to address and they need to start selling themselves to the players and then the fans or this ship will sink fast. Too many guys are looking at the IHL and saying….”Not me!”

  49. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Sounds like Bruce or someone close to Bruce might be posting on here if you read closely. He sure did paint 2 different pictures from what he said here locally and what he said in Wichita today.

  50. Jeff Says:

This “What a joke” person sounds like “Tokyo Rose” or “Seoul City Sue” reincarnated with the propaganda they are spreading.

  51. Junior Says:

It’s new and different and people don’t know what to expect, so all they can do is go back to the old standard of saying that we need to be in the AHL. There is nothing wrong with the Frankes making money and there is nothing wrong with attempting to make an affordable minor league product. It’s as if hockey is a booming sport and everyone is going out to watch it, they’re not.

If you have never been to an AHL game, it is not exciting at all. Same goes with the ECHL x’s 2.

  52. Greg Says:

I’d rather have the Frankes make money and guarentte that the Komets staty in Fort Wayne then for them to take a flyer in the AHL and Possibly (actually most likely) lose there shirts (now try and sleep tonight on that thought) and have the fans wondering if hockey will ever be back in this town.

  53. Komets Fan Says:

There are far more people who agree with what Joke says then don’t…. Believe it. Just because they don’t take the time to post on the blogs doesn’t mean they are in the minority, unlike what Skate and Tony E would make you believe. As far as how players feel about the Frankes, I will GUARANTEE you that everything is not as rosy as you read in the fishwraps. There is a reason why only one guy has signed from last year’s team and it is not just because of one reason. Sadly, Skate and Tony E must be be either one of the Frankes or on the Komets payroll the way they defend any and everything the Frankes do. Yes, the Frankes are entitled to make money. No, they are not entitled to constantly lie to Komet fans.

  54. Greg Says:

What proof does anyone have that the Frankes are lying????

As Skate says, produce the evidence!!!!!

  55. Charlie I Says:

komet fan–you must not pay attention…..Skate does not always defend the frankes….belive me he doesn’t. About the players thats funny. Thats why it seems we always had 6 or 7 guys stay each year.

  56. Tony E Says:

It is amazing how some people do not understand the concept of slander and libel while they sit in their underwear and blog under multiple f IDs.
Nevermind the fact that these multiple IDs continue to also insult and question the credibility of the two writers who host these blogs.

  57. Greg Says:

That’s for sure. I’m just waiting to see what/if the response will be for WAJ and KF.

  58. Tony E Says:

Just for questions sake, did the Frankes ever deny owing money to the old crooked players association?

  59. Junior Says:

If they want to prove something to us that the Frankes are crooked, go out and do the HOMEWORK. Talk to players, publish the article and then maybe you can get some people to understand what the H you people are saying. It’s become repetivitve and has zero credibility.

Since we are not as privledged as Joke or KF to see the inside of the Frankes, fill us in with some facts. Blakes does his homework.

  60. Greg Says:

Junior stole my thunder. I was really going to go into a long winded schpeel about it as well, but Junior got right to the point.

  61. Tony E Says:

I think it is simply time to stop feeding the trolls then they can migrate back to ITB.

  62. Greg Says:

Adam Elzinga back with the K-Wings. That makes three in their stall now and all played last year.

  63. Junior Says:

Is there any talk of the K’s signing some players? Or at least talking to some people? My season ticket money is due soon and I want to know before I spend 500 more bucks!!

  64. JungleMonkey Says:

“It is amazing how some people do not understand the concept of slander and libel while they sit in their underwear and blog under multiple f IDs.” —-Tony E

“the old crooked players association.”—– Tony E

  65. Burgee Says:

anyone good at profiling so we can figure out who joke is. i’m thinking young, 30 or under, non canadian or if canadian has an american typing, remarks about government leads toward non citizen, no coach P slams so i’m thinking more associated with last years team.

  66. JungleMonkey Says:

There are two sides to every story. I have a feeling that the truth is somewhere in the middle. Some people are to extreme to be taken too seriously. Ed, for instance, while being very knowlegable, has been on the Franke payroll.

Point being, the Frankes own the team so what they do is the way it is. That doesn’t mean anyone has to like it.

Going the IHL route has taken Komet hockey a step back. Some people are still upset that we moved to the UHL and took the original step back. When you have one of the top 7 fan bases in all of minor league hockey, but play in the lowest or second lowest (SPHL) league in the land, fans will get restless. Thats just the way it is. I have yet to renew my season tickets and am leaning more towards not purchasing them this season. We pay a lot of money, we have yet to see the product. The only thing we have gotten so far is a mass exodus of talent from last seasons team. When some quality is added to the roster, I will look at the possibility of paying AHL prices for my season tickets.

  67. JungleMonkey Says:

Ok Burgee…. Under 30 and American…. Hansen, Bozo, Goody, Syro… Who are you guessing?…….lol…

  68. Tony E Says:

Junglemonkey the difference is I can back up my claims based on what has happened with Alan Eagleson and some of the other goings on during that time.
    Here is one example:
    http://www.canoe.ca/HockeyEagleson/jan4_eagle.html
I also post under one name and am not hard to get ahold of if someone wants to speak with me about something I write.

  69. Komets Fan Says:

JM is right…. We have been paying AHL prices ever since we left the IHL almost 10 years ago. The prices did not drop when we went from AAA hockey to essentially A hockey. That is what most people don’t seem to understand. Look at most of the other AAA teams and their prices right now and it is lower or the same as we are paying for A hockey. There is not “interpetation”, it is fact!!!!

  70. JungleMonkey Says:

I understand your points Tony. The same can be said for The PHPA situation with the K’s. I’m not going to search all day for the court papers, but they do exist online. I’m not arguing either way as to the “crookedness” of the PHPA. But I do think it plays a major role in the Franke’s deciding what league to play in.

  71. Greg Says:

So your covering yourself with someone else’s argument instead of defending your own????

  72. Greg Says:

How successful in the pocket book do you think some of these AHL teams are KF? Have you looked at their books, seen their expense sheet???

  73. Greg Says:

But that’s the point that Tony is trying to make JM. People makes statments as a matter of fact yet either cannot or will not produce evidence to supports those claims. I’m sorry but “…not going to search all day looking for court papers, but they do exist online.” to me is a bit of a cop-out. How are you to be believed. I can say I know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried but can’t say right know. How am I to be believed? Saying I believe something is different from saying I know something is true. Saying I believe in something leaves room for being wrong. Saying I know something is true means I have factual knowledge that can back up that claim AND I can present it. Unless people have those facts or are willing to present it, how are they to be believed.

  74. Tony E Says:

In case anyone cares of what the NHLPA and the PHPA had to do with each other at that time monies from the NHLPA and PHPA flowed together in many cases with the majority of AAA players having two way contracts . I am not sure if they are now totally separate entities or not.

  75. Greg Says:

Prairie Thunder have two signed bringing their total to three.

  76. Tony E Says:

Have any teams signed anyone they drafted yet?

  77. Greg Says:

Not from what I’ve either seen or heard, but then again I wager there’s still some uncertinty with players from last season about the direction of the league and it will take a brave few such as Bootland, Willis, Dupuis, to say yes we can play in this league come join us.

  78. Komets Fan Says:

    My profiling expertise would say:

30ish w/m canadian with strong american ties. Possibly a recent x-player who was probably close to the most recent x-player. This is fun. Or maybe a 19 year old b/g/f who’s resume wasn’t considered for the last jeep girl opening.

  79. Junior Says:

    n/f/c: No fat chicks

  80. What a joke Says:

First, I am sorry for using the s-word. I’ll be careful from now on.

I read what everybody had to say and this will most likely be my last post. You are way off with your search of finding my identity but once again I could be lying right?

Tony, I respect your knowledge of the hockey business but I think I know more about how it really is from the inside. If you people look for evidence in papers or the internet stop looking. It is biased the majority of the time. Not because the journalists are bad. Blake and Justin do their jobs with the information they are given. They search and ask coaches, players, GM etc. If you know the hockey world so well then you should know that it is a VERY Politically correct one. Most of the time the answers are built to somewhat answer the questions but at the same time to not really say what you think. The GM has to back his coach and the other way around. Same thing between coaches and players. There is no such thing in hockey as a Lou Piniella press conference. Everything stays behind closed doors. The fans know very little of what really goes on under their seats. They know even less of what goes on in the offices.

Once again I will not say who I am because it is not the point. I said it before. I throw it out there to make you think. If you don’t want to believe then it’s your right. I just wish you really knew that’s all. I read people saying they are waiting to renew their season tickets. They don’t know half of what’s happening and they are already in doubt. Good thing there’s always a good way of embellishing something that doesn’t look too good. That the Frankes understand. And that’s how they keep you fans coming back every year no matter what happens the year before.

If I were a fan I’d wonder why no one is coming back from last year’s great team that was so much fun to watch. They were awesome on the ice and just as much off the ice. They had a great relationship with the fans and liked each other so much. Isn’t it a good recipe to success for many years? And oh before I forget, please don’t go think it is only because of the new IHL…

Finally, my Blog Name “What a joke” was only used for the purpose of my first post. It regarded the schedule and how dumb it was once again. I didn’t want to change after since you already knew me as WAJ.

    Enjoy next season!

  81. Burgee Says:

yeah, it looks like the final post.

i’m not a profiler, but i would venture to guess a mid 40’s sports newspaper person who is required to get so many blog hits a day(yeah right). Who knows but more importantly who cares.

    Go Komets — Fury stink!!

  82. Junior Says:

    Amen Burgee!!

  83. JungleMonkey Says:

    http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/2453

    I’ll google for you.

  84. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Blakes? Was that you? I can’t see Super Fan doing that. I still bet that it is a player from this past years team. We had similar posts last off-season. We also know that Komet Warrior shows up to yank the chain and that too is msot likely a player having fun with us.

Interesting that WAJ shows up on the blog the day Bruce moves on to Wichita. I still say it is someone close to him, if not him, or even an agent.

  85. Skate Says:

What is the current status of that law suit?

  86. David Says:

Well JM thanks for providing the “proof” that everyone on here is wanting. It is in black in white and that is the reason this organization will not go back to the AHL or ECHL. That money would have to be repaid. Now my questions is for Blake, why have you or JC not investigated this issue that dates back to 2001? Maybe you have and I missed the response by the Frankes, but that lawsuit should be explained by the Frankes as it pertains the organization. It is also interesting that for over the past couple of years we have been trying to get an agreement with an AHL team to send players. I wonder if the reason we don’t have that agreement has to do with this outstanding lawsuit? I again may have missed a valid response to that lawsuit by the Frankes and the newspapers but I just have not ever seen anything that deals with it.

  87. Skate Says:

Again, I ask, “What is the current status of the lawsuit?”

Has it been settled? Is it still being litigated after all this time? I thought that the Dupuis issue had been resolved years ago.

David, if the suit is still pending, why do the Franke’s owe you (or anyone) an explanation? Even if has been resolved, why do you think the Frankes are obligated to discuss the details with anyone?

If you were being sued over a disputed issue, would YOU feel obligated to call the local newspaper and tell everyone why you were in court? Why do you expect the Frankes to?

  88. Jungle Monkey Says:

You don’t all financially support his “public” business either. So really you analogy is pretty weak.

  89. Skate Says:

JM — Your response is a little unclear to me. But if you are saying that because the public buys tickets to see the Komets play the Frankes are obligated to openly discuss all their legal issues, I disagree.

Do you ever shop at Wal-Mart? How many hundreds (thousands) of lawsuits does it face annually? How many of the suits are legitimate or how many are without merit? Simply because you may buy your groceries there doesn’t mean that if you go to their Arkansas HQ, Lee Scott, Wal-Mart’s CEO, is gonna discuss these suits with you?

First, the suits are matters of public record, so if you’re really that interested, the information is out there for you. Second, show me a company that HASN’T been on one end or the other of a law suit. Third, you have the freedom to “financially support the ‘public’ business” — OR NOT. If you’re bothered by this suit, settled or pending, take your business elsewhere.

Go to Kalamazoo or shop at Target. It’s just that easy.

  90. Jungle Monkey Says:

I agree that the Franke’s have no obligation. I do shop at Target because I don’t like Walmart’s business practices. I think the Frankes suit is far different. I only stated that this is what keeps them from the ECHL or AHL.

  91. Marv Says:

Whether Joke is a player or writer or fan he knows what he’s talking about. You guys are just to ignorant or don’t want to face the truth. Someday it will come out. Can’t you put 2+2 together. Hello, Why are only a few guys coming back from a great team last year????????

This new League will suck and more than likely won’t make it.

The NHL has been knocking on Ft. Wayne’s door for years wanting to put a team in here with the AHL but the Frankies won’t do it. They want control and all the money. Believe me someone would buy the team IF IT WAS FOR SALE. Hello, if it was so tough to own this team then why don’t the Frankies sell? AH, I think there making too much money!

  92. Horton's Jaw Says:

My response to the most recent calumny on this blog.

“What would it profit a man to gain the whole world but forfeit his soul.”
    Matthew 16:26

  93. Goalie Girl Says:

Didn’t realize that the blog had regressed to n/f/c “no fat chicks” comments and bible quotes. I don’t know if we should hire an exorsist or a priest to help get a team signed for the season, honestly does it matter now? We will have hockey in Ft. Wayne No wait.. I know lets leave it to the Hillbilly forum to debate the actions of the Franke Family. ever heard of the golden rule ..”He who has all the gold makes the rules” the Franke’s will do what they have done for the past 50 plus years. Build a team and put them on the ice. And we will keep filling the seats. Whats the debate? Hey Junior “Fat Chicks Rule” by the way remember that next time you have to get out of you seat to let one pass by. We are all Gods children. thank you Jesus or Willy Nelson who ever you pray to. go Komets!

  94. bsebring Says:

Heck, I never connected that was the suit you were talking about. That’s easy to explain.

The whole issue was the PHPA said the Komets were part of the IHL in the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons when they left after the 98-99 season. They said that because at the same time, the IHL sued them to try to force the Komets to help the league pay some of its debts and to stop them using the name, too. That didn’t work either. The Komets were actually proven to be correct in their claim because they had started an entirely new corporation and folded the previous corporation when they left the IHL. That’s also why Guy’s lawsuit never went anywhere. None of those issues ever even made it to court because essentially there was nothing left to sue.

That all happened just as the IHL was folding in 2001 as a desperate last gasp to get some money to stay afloat.

“The Komets’ former league is suing the K’s for more than $292,000 it claims it is owed for game dues and worker’s compensation payments during the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday and received Thursday in Allen Superior Court.

“The Komets played those two seasons in the United Hockey League, but they were on “suspended” status in the IHL and still liable for payments, according to the complaint. It states that the Komets requested the suspended status.”

What happened was, the Komets officially left the IHL in July, 2000, but the IHL refused to accept that as official and tried to keep charging them for the two seasons. So the Frankes formed a new corporation so the suits were in effect against a disbanded company and thus pointless. The IHL and PHPA tried the same thing with Kalamazoo and I believe Indianapolis, and never got a dime from them, either.

“It was a matter of business, I wasn’t mad at them,” Dupuis said. “I think most people would have done the same thing as I did. We didn’t have any hard feelings on our side because it was a business decision for me and a business decision for them.”

I figured you had to be talking about something else because those issues were determined a long time ago. Part of the PHPA stuff had to do with Robin Bawa and his post-concussion syndrome and that was all settled by the insurance company.

    Ancient, ancient history.

  95. Tony E Says:

Marv why is it you never answer my questions when I ask you to back your statements up with facts whether it be when you “quote” players or now your current theme?

I am going to call you out again. You said ” The NHL has been knocking on Ft. Wayne’s door for years wanting to put a team in here with the AHL but the Frankies won’t do it. ”

What proof do you have of this statement. If you choose to ignore me as you have in my previous questions you will prove that you are nothing but a typical boardie coward hiding behind the “protection” of you computer spouting your opinions as if they were fact.

  96. Blake Says:

Everybody cool off for a while. This is totally stupid. Maybe it’s my fault because I haven’t has as much time to monitor things for about a week, but this stops now.
