But unlike last year when I learned my lesson, I am not leaving anyone else in charge. I’m not even encouraging anyone else to try to pick up the slack, either.
I’ll be checking in sometimes to keep everyone honest, but you won’t be getting updates. I’ll be back Aug. 6. Everybody have fun.
July 19, 2007 at 2:05 pm

July 19, 2007 at 10:43 pm
Tell Rob Guinn and Artie Kiyaga we all said Hello….Super Fan. Rob is surely having you out to his home in New Mexico again this summer. LOL
11………..Number of times Blakes thought about leaving the Blog over to me to run for 2 weeks and then thought the Enema Man references might just drain the crap out of everyone finally…..
July 20, 2007 at 10:20 am
12………. Number of fights Rob Guinn has forgotten about since he woke up this morning.
July 20, 2007 at 12:03 pm
Blake,
Please put a stop to comments that disparage players and others. It turns my stomach.
Rob Guinn and Arthur Kiyaga wore the K’s sweater. They represented their team and themselves with honor. For those who contuinue to attempt staining their reputations, I will offer rebuttal in return each time. En-garde!
July 20, 2007 at 12:34 pm
everyone put on the rose colored glasses.
July 20, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Wouldn’t that be orange colored glasses?
July 20, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Testing
July 20, 2007 at 1:04 pm
break out the rose colored glasses!!!
July 20, 2007 at 1:06 pm
sorry didnt mean to post that twice orange colored glasses would be appropriate too!!! guess the jaw would defend greg tebutt too!!
July 20, 2007 at 1:22 pm
There’s a name from the past
July 20, 2007 at 4:16 pm
There’s no defense for Greg Tebutt. He was my favorite player that year until the overtime of the final game of the playoffs.
That was the year the IHL had a round-robin playoff and the final game was played in FW against Port Huron. As luck would have it, due to the round robin records of those two teams, the game was absolutely meaningless.
The game went into overtime. Tebutt, TWICE ON THE SAME SHIFT IN OVERTIME, had the puck at the side of the Komet net (I sat right behind that net) and he made DIRECT EYE CONTACT with 2 Port Huron players and then passed the puck directly to that Port Huron guy — tape to tape for a shot.
Once to the point, the shot was saved by Sanscartier and then on the rebound to a guy in the slot who shot and Sanscartier stopped that, too. I remember the look of surprise on the PH slot guy’s face. The Komets eventually won the game but I’ll NEVER forget that gutless exhibition. If you want the season to be over that bad, just go to the lockerroom, take off your team’s sweater, and let the guys who want to play and give an honest effort do so.
Fold your tent and get out of town. As talented as he was, if I were the coach he would NEVER PLAY ANOTHER SHIFT FOR ME AGAIN. I was right in line with him from behind, I saw this perfectly clearly. It’s just not how you play the game and it was an absolute disgrace.
July 20, 2007 at 9:38 pm
and the fwp ran him out of town, they were tired of taking the k-9 s into the bars to get him out!!!!
July 20, 2007 at 9:48 pm
22………..Kevn Bertram’s number as a komet….then it was someone’s number about 5 or 6 times until Richardson became #22. It was a number that was given to a newly acquired player and then the Cardboard Cutout would either not play the guy at all or play him one shift and cut him.
July 21, 2007 at 8:01 am
Skate, wasn’t that the same year there was a bench clearing brawl in the playoffs Against K-Zoo? I saw you referenced Sansecartier and I remember after the fight that K-Zoo players were thrown Sans goalie equipment into the stands and the papers the next day made an appeal for the equipment back since the series wasn’t done yet.
July 21, 2007 at 11:11 am
i remember that! back when hockey was hockey and bob phillips got his eyes gouged by somebodywho later became a goon in the nhl and a coach. phillips then went beserk and did a tightrope walk along the boards trying to get at….quick skate, for ten points, name the famous eye gouger!!!
July 21, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Dirk Graham
July 22, 2007 at 12:07 am
not
July 22, 2007 at 6:05 pm
Jeff Leverman was the culprit. I was sitting behind the penalty box that night and you can see my head in the picture from the paper where Denny Shebig is trying to keep Leverman from jumping onto Phillips while he is lying on the floor of the penalty box after hurtling into it head first. Ahhh, the good old days! Last I knew Phillips was a salesman in Indy for Keebler. Guess he’s in charge of keeping the elves in line!
July 22, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Is Blake vacationing with Justin?
July 22, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Skate,
Just a point of clarification, Tebbutt played here in 1981-82, but I think you mean Saginaw instead of Port Huron (the Flags folded after the 1980-81 season). The IHL played with 7 teams that year.
Greg,
You’re right, that was the year of the big playoff brawl with Kalamazoo. If I remember right, during that series, one of the Kalamazoo players (maybe Boris Fistric) tried to take Rob Motz’ head off after Motz scored a goal.
Wasn’t that also the series where Fistric, with his Bobby Orr-like rushes, (that had to have been written by a future Muskegon Fury PR writer) tried to get at the Komets in their dressing room in Kalamazoo?
July 22, 2007 at 10:30 pm
the eye gougher was mcsorley i thought! leverman was just an idiot in the way!
July 23, 2007 at 12:20 am
When did Leverman play in the NHL? He was a terrible hockey player.
July 23, 2007 at 6:50 am
I heard Blake and Justin went to the opneing of “Chuck and Larry”…….
Guess the Journal and News Sentianal benes are gonna change so there looking at all options
July 23, 2007 at 7:59 am
I don’t quite remeber that although that could have wha tled up to the brawl. What I remeber was at the end of the game Fistric pulled a Dale Hunter (or the other way around considering Boris did it first) and cheap shotted Dale Baldwin just as the horn blew to end the game. That’s when all heck broke loose. I was 10 at the time and my Dad took me to the game. As we were leaving we heard a ruckus coming from the K-zoo locker room and went to investigate. I scared that heck out of my Dad because I got out of sight from him, but too many gaurds near the locker room so I couldn’t see much. We ended up going aroung to the Komets locker room and I got a lot of autographs. Dad wanted to her what the K’s thought of the fight/brawl first hand.
July 23, 2007 at 2:31 pm
chuckitt — The “Phillips game” was the only one I miised that year (of coure)
Jeff — You may well be right. I was going by memory. The opposing team may be wrong, but the events involving Tebutt were right. I mean, this sounds silly, but I sat in my seat and couldn’t believe any player would do something like that.
Greg — It may have been. I remember that Sanscartier was plaqying out his fanny and they ran him into the boards. Craig Channel, (if you can believe that) was the first guy to jump on the pile.
July 23, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Daniel GONEau has signed with a team in Canada.
July 23, 2007 at 2:59 pm
In the LNAH? Goneau.
July 23, 2007 at 3:09 pm
Remeber the game against Peoria when Byron Lomow and Don Martin tried to get from the Komets Penalty Box into the Visitor’s Box taking the short cut over the scorekeepers area?
Who was waiting in the Visitor’s (Peoria) box? None other than Tony Twist and Kelly Chase.
Lomow and Martin woulda been killed. (They didn’t make it.)
July 23, 2007 at 3:12 pm
Yep, Goneau going to play in the LNAH.
July 23, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Didn’t Lomow end up with the ICE and every time we played them he would go after Shoebottom and they would go at?
July 23, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Hello All.
Long time listener, etc, etc.
I have a serious question to which serious replies would be appreciated. What would the fan response be to a Komet comeback of Derek Gauthier?
And no, I am not Derek.
Thanks!
July 23, 2007 at 6:59 pm
If Goater could stay healthy, I’d love to see him hit the ice!!!
July 23, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Mike Lekun used to fight Marc Magnan every time FW and Indy played.
Lekun would headbutt him every time they fought, too. Once during a big fight, they were going at it along the boards just inside the blue line at the end the Komets defend twice. Lekun had him up against the boards and kept headbutting him )refs were busy elsewhere) so many times, Magnan was practically out on his feet going to the Indy bench.
I don’t remember Lomow and SHoebottom going, although that’s not to say they wouldn’t.
July 23, 2007 at 10:41 pm
lets suit up the calvinator and then he could bring in his son and they could be the first father son combo to be suspended at the same time!!
July 24, 2007 at 9:23 am
The Calvinator would be UP, DRESSED and READY TO RUMBLE.
July 24, 2007 at 9:41 am
What was the best brawl in Komet history?
July 24, 2007 at 10:39 am
Prairie Thunder and K-Zoo both sign three players.
July 24, 2007 at 10:40 am
Best brawl had to be one during the playoffs in Toledo during the early 80’s. That was back in the days when you were risking your life just to go there to watch a game. We were sitting in the front row, I think we were winning and the Diggers went wild over something or other and started throwing punches. There were fights happening everywhere; Teddy Garvin was throwing chairs on the ice; fans were throwing beer and those stupid folding chairs everywhere. And to top it all off, here were my friends and I wearing orange painter pants (yes, those were popular back then!) and the old blue and orange fireball Komet T-shirts. Talk about risking your life! I clearly remember my friend standing on her chair screaming “Just don’t take my Bollie button!”. (She had a major crush on then-captain Mike Boland.) As I’ve said before, those were the good ole days…
July 24, 2007 at 12:32 pm
I remember going with my dad and the team to Toledo. That place was nuts. I remeber the Goaldigger Mascot in that wooden box that hung from the rafters and he would jump up and down in there, going nuts and dirt and stuff would fall down from it. I thought he was going to fall through. My dad told me stories like how they had to put the bus inside with a police guard because fans would cut the wires and belts on the engine. He said he would have to get some one to stand on the opposite side of the bus from where he was loading equipment because kids would pull the bags back off the other side and try to steal equipment. AHH the good ole days.
July 24, 2007 at 4:34 pm
First off, there is NO PLACE in hockey for out-and-out brawling. It is bad. But, since it happens, one of the most famous was the HORRIBLE Komets/Flint “Fitchner challenges the Flint bench” affair. If for no other reason than there was a carryover to Flint later. The carryover was partially described in Blakess book when Fitchner fought Doug Kerslake. Bob Kirk also beat the crap out of Wayne Zuk, which was lovely.
There was also the early 70’s Toledo @ FW affair which featured the big picture in the Journal captioned “Bernie in Command” showing Komet Bernie MacNeil straddling Toledo tough guy Dino Mascotto at centre ice. This one, too, I think Blakes writes about.
Trying to rank the best brawl in Komet history would be like trying to decide who would be the best date: Halle Berry, Britney Spears or a 60’s Linda Ronstadt. I don’t think you’d be dissapointed in any of them.
July 24, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Too bad you all missed the “Horrible Shoebottom Incident” in Tulsa the 2nd year of the reformed CHL. Just terrible. Police Officers, Mace, Batons, and a Chokehold. Skate would not have approved.

Chaulk Signs with Komets as Player/Assistant Coach
July 25, 2007 at 1:56 pm
I hate to say this, but this is not good for all Komet fans. At least one isn’t impressed with the signing.
July 25, 2007 at 2:07 pm
Great Signing! Welcome back Chaulker!
July 25, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Chaulker is a great addition. Things are looking on the up and up. Lets hope Henley gets signed and maybe Tremblay as a rookie.
July 25, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Chauker WELCOME BACK!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!!
July 25, 2007 at 2:57 pm
At the conclusion of the year Showbottom played for FW, there was an on ice meet the player session. I asked Shoebottom if he’d mind that I would grab his jersey by the neck and pose like I was gonna drill him with a right.
He went along with it, then the pic didn’t turn out.
I remember that year Shoebottom had a heckuva a fight with Kevin Evans.
That choke hold all but ended Shoebottom’s career. And, no, I DON’T approve of Police getting involved in that sort of thing unless the players are in the stands. This happened, as I understand, in the penalty box. Showbottom was just swarmed by cops.
July 25, 2007 at 3:40 pm
so much for talent not wanting to play in this league. so long bruce, a true komet not. welcome home chauker. now lets sign someone to protect him. and is pc not far behind?
July 25, 2007 at 3:48 pm
That 19th roster spot and the thought of being the guy to protect Chaulker almost makes me regret having the kidney transplant which, just like the Shoebottom choke hold, effective ended my career.
I used to cruise left wing with a menacing scowl on my face.
July 25, 2007 at 4:04 pm
give me a break, are you talking about pc drouin? why are you people always stuck on bringing the same players back over and over, i suppose you would like to see goneau back also? c”mon lets get some freshblood in here, some young hungry players, look at rockfords teams the last few years they were mostly rookies and younger players,, yes we hated them but you have to admit they were fun to watch, won the cup also.
July 25, 2007 at 4:28 pm
I LOVE the Chaulk signing, but have no desire to see PC skate in a K’s uniform.
The signing of Chaulk is not moving backwards, he’s 30 and still very productive. If he’s playing in the states, he belongs in a K’s uniform!!
July 25, 2007 at 4:32 pm
Pretty sure both Richardson and Chaulk left for what appeared to be greener pastures at the time. I certainly don’t fault either one of them for sacrificing their “true Komet” badges for more money. Its disappointing from a fans perspective but thats life and “true fans” understand that.
I do like the signing of Colin Chaulk as it stands today but like the above poster….I would like to see some the K’s venture into unchartered waters and bring in some new blood as we continue to proceed forward. Couple of finishers would be nice right now.
July 25, 2007 at 5:43 pm
Is this a good signing for the K’s perhaps but more for the fans who love fimiliar faces in the uniform. Out of the signings thus far no true bangers and guys willling to mix it up in the corners or in front of the net. Right now this is not the makings of a rough and tough hockey club.
July 25, 2007 at 6:17 pm
dont you people know sarcasim when you read it? some of you really need to get a life or maybe just smile once and awhile. and skate you cruised the left wing until i stood you up at the blueline!!!!
July 25, 2007 at 6:31 pm
I’m a happy camper right now! They also said on the news (don’t ask me which channel, I don’t remember!) that deals for Bozoian and Hansen are on the way and they’re working on a deal for “a goaltender”.
July 25, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Yep I saw that on the news also and again where is the toughness promised??? Hansen is not afraid to do the dirty work but the K’s found out early on that Hansen is not a “policemen” for there star players. Bozoian had a nice playoff run, but again he is an undersized player that is not capable of playing a rough style….Where is the “BEEF” Mr. Franke
July 25, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Another thing on the Chaulk signing he played a year of Euro hockey and will he influenced Sims that is the direction this club needs to take with a team influenced by Euro Hockey?
July 25, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Personally I hope we end up with guys who can put up and also do there fair share of shutting up…..but thats me.
The continued impatience of how this team is being put together gets so annoying. You find your core group and build around it. You don’t come out of the gate swinging by signing 3 or 4 “19th skaters”. We’ll be just fine come opening night.
July 25, 2007 at 9:50 pm
Great Signing. They have to continue to sign top-liners before they are all gone and then you fill in the blanks with guys that are willing to beat the crap out of Flint and Port Huron when we are beating them 7-1 or 6-0 in the 3rd period because they have teams full of non-skaters that they loaded up on and forgot to sign skilled players. I like the guys they have signed so far and think that before it is all over, we will see some more signings that will be very interesting and exciting. I am ready for the puck to be dropped.
Chaulker is what this team lacked last season. A guy that wins 90% of the faceoffs, a guy that can pass the puck and set-up his teammates, a guy that can score as a forward 5 on 5 and on the powerplay, and a guy that will fight the battles in front of the net and in the corners along the boards. We lacked that last season bigtime. I don’t care that he played for us before, I was pissed that he was let go and not signed last season. He is 20 times better than Mr. NHL DG and Richardson both. Neither of those guys did what it takes to win games on the #1 line.
July 25, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Blake and Cohn go to Rob Guinn’s for vacation and we sign Chaulker….great timing guys. LOL
July 26, 2007 at 9:02 am
Ed Campbell signed by the K-Wings
July 26, 2007 at 9:18 am
This is tremendous news that Chaulk is back! He is easily one of the best players in the league. This signing has really created a buzz with people I know. Just a great 2 way hockey player.
I hope they can get Henley signed too, I know it was said he might not be ready till December, but I think he is a key player to have with him being one of the toughest players and he can play a regular shift.
July 26, 2007 at 9:47 am
Flint signed Ryan Jorde, although many of you wont care, but he is a solid d-man and the Komets could sure used him…if he would come back! Welcome back Chaulker!!
July 26, 2007 at 10:06 am
What they K-Wings have signed thus far is “Toughness” with the addition of Campbell, Wills, Bootland, and now the young kid Rechlicz who hadd 33 majors last season. Those signings are what this league is going to made up of. The young kid 6-4 230 lbs Winger. We have not sign any size. I hope Henley does sign but he will not be available until after the first of the year. That does us no good in October.
July 26, 2007 at 6:12 pm
I smell a little vagabond magic in the air…sniff sniff. Great moves by the K’s. I think Simsy is gonna bring back some glory from 90-91. Perhaps picking up Tommy Karalis as an assistant would be a nice move too…
Go Ks !
July 27, 2007 at 6:48 am
Hit, you said “Neither of those guys did what it takes to win games on the #1 line.”
Did we or did we not win the most games in the league in the regular season??? Yes I know you are going to say well we got beat by Rockford in the playoffs, and you would be correct, but to say those guys didn’t have what it takes to win games is ridiculous to say the least. Richardson had more heart then any 2 guys on that team combined minus Pascal. Chaulk is a great signing, and will pay dividends for the Komets, but to knock Bruce for his hard work and play is ludicris.
July 27, 2007 at 7:18 am
Agree with you completely Jerad. I would take Bruce back in a heartbeat. Great signing with Chaulk. One of our best moves. For those who loved Arthur, he is playing on Frenchy’s team, along with Lackner.
July 27, 2007 at 7:52 am
Iluvhockey: Source, please.
July 27, 2007 at 8:18 am
HMMMMM Kiyaga on the same team as the guy he played in front of. Conicendence???? I think not!!!!
July 27, 2007 at 9:22 am
Just talked with Lackner yesterday and that is what he told me.
July 27, 2007 at 9:46 am
Tulsa’s keeping it quite for now. No mention of it on their website.
July 27, 2007 at 9:50 am
I’m glad that Arthur found a team to play with this year. I figured that we wouldn’t ask him back since Pat was gone. I wish him all the best. He was a really cool guy. I wish Lackner the best of luck also.
July 27, 2007 at 11:04 am
I think the both of them, Bruce and Chaulk, would of made an interesting combination. But I’m sure if Bruce would of came back, you wouldn’t of seen Chaulk.
July 27, 2007 at 11:57 am
Beauregard is on Tulsa too.
July 27, 2007 at 3:05 pm
So is Guinn.
“God didn’t make little green apples, and it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime.” — O.C. Smith (Real music, not like the NOISE kids listen to today.)
July 27, 2007 at 5:30 pm
Let’s fight about something.
What side do you want?
July 27, 2007 at 6:12 pm
What are we fighting about? You don’t want to fight me…
July 27, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Mike Wiggins played for Tulsa last season. He was their second leading scorer behind D.A.B.; 59 points in 64 games.
July 27, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Just checked the Tulsa site nice pic of Frenchy and Beaureguard doing some stuff with kids. No mention of Arthur yet. Go K’s
July 27, 2007 at 8:54 pm
We won a bunch of games because our #3 line carried this team and the #2 line showed up every other game to score some goals. Without Mario and Guy playing practically every defensive shift that the #1 line was on the ice this past season, we would have been in deep poo. That first line was lost way too much after say the 20 or 25 game of the season. Mr. NHL was worthless. Richie had heart, toughness, and grit. So did Kelly Miller, and Kelly Miller isn’t a number one liner or a Colin Chaulk either. I didn’t mean to cut Bruce down. I am just saying that Chaulk is a totally different caliber of player that we lacked last season.
I am excited about this years team all ready.
July 27, 2007 at 10:05 pm
I AGREE MOSTLY WITH what you said hit except i thought kelly miller stunk. specially when he came back here as an opponent.
July 28, 2007 at 7:04 am
After Miller got nailed by someone (Henley? can’t remember), he wasn’t runnin around the ice as much during the playoffs. You just needed to push him off his game.
July 28, 2007 at 12:34 pm
I don’t exactly trust eurohockey’s info anymore but they’re saying Gascon signed with some team in France.
July 28, 2007 at 2:20 pm
Yeh Five…Gascon has said he’s going too play this year somewhere in Europe..That’s what he’s saying on his myspace page…anyway
July 28, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Kent Hormann reported on Channel 21 tonight that Kevin Hansen is signed.
July 29, 2007 at 7:26 am
The Euro game is much more suitedfor Gascan, anyway.
Maybe, then, he’d be happy in the CHL.
July 29, 2007 at 10:03 am
What does that comment about Marty mean, Skate? He is going to play in France, but he was an excellent player with us. We wish that he would have come back also.
July 29, 2007 at 11:56 am
I’m not saying we couldn’t have found a spot for him, but he cartainly wasn’t one who was willing to go out of his way to engage in the more physical style of play when the opportunity presented itself.
July 29, 2007 at 1:31 pm
good third line player with lots of opportunity for improvement
July 29, 2007 at 4:18 pm
OK, I’ll give you that. Marty is not a physical guy. I thought that you were trashing his play last season. Europe would probably be better for him, but I will miss him terribly. He could develop into a great player.
July 29, 2007 at 5:41 pm
I hope what someone is predicting over on Cohn’s site doesn’t come true. Someone is saying Dan Price is coming back to the K’s. Please say it isn’t so. Does anyone on here care to see Dan Price back? I guess you could have the underachieving line of PC, Mr. NHL Goneau, and Dan Price. That is scary. Puke.
They also said that Danny Stewart might be coming back. That would be ok. Anyone hearing of other singings yet? We need a Goalie and a #1 scoring defensemen yet. Hope there is something out there.
Seems like the signings so far haven’t been much recruiting involved. I mean these guys were players who played here and 2 guys that were drafted. What is Al Sims doing exactly so far? And sounds as if Colin Chaulk is heading the recruiting process so far. I could be wrong about Sims…but do you see what I am saying?
July 29, 2007 at 7:02 pm
My my my…. interesting.
July 29, 2007 at 7:11 pm
No way Franke, Sims and Chaulk would be stupid enough to sign Price. His last season he was on a downhill slide and that was 2004.
Stewart would be great because he still has something to offer and is a fan favorite for a reason. He would be great on the line with Hukalo with the loss of Morency. Quite a few people have said he is going back to England anyways.
The Komets need to get younger stud players in their PRIME. Rockford beat us last year because not only did they have skill…but they could play physical.
July 29, 2007 at 7:31 pm
price would have to stay out of the donut shops and stewart would have to stay out of the bars and both would have to rededicate themselves to hockey so i dont see it happening.
July 29, 2007 at 11:47 pm
goneau signed in the LNAH back home.
Bring Back Stewart!
July 30, 2007 at 6:40 am
D. Stew would be a welcome addition to this years team.
July 30, 2007 at 7:03 am
A more physical game doesn’t require that all players play that style. It means that the physical isn’t discouraged and that fighting is not banned. A lot of the guys I’ve seen dissed here would be entirely different players if they know that someone has their backs.
July 30, 2007 at 7:54 am
Komets still need to sign a player who will score at least 40 goals.
July 30, 2007 at 8:24 am
Ron Vogel who played for Rockford and Marty Mager who played for Chicago signed with Port Huron.
Just a thought, but I wouldn’t mind having Dustin Traylin in camp. He played pretty well against the Komets, shutting them out twice in Fort Wayne.
July 30, 2007 at 9:36 am
you have to read between the lines on certain guys people. danny stewart was a good player for us but again maybe there is a certain element in town that doestnt want stewart back and maybe had a lot to do with his leaving. just a thought to ponder.
July 30, 2007 at 10:02 am
when is the signing of hansen going to become official??
July 30, 2007 at 10:04 am
Do you guys want anyone who has NOT played on past teams or is under the age of 28-30?
July 30, 2007 at 10:24 am
I said Dustin Traylin from last year’s Port Huron team.
July 30, 2007 at 11:17 am
Port Huron must really want to remove “Flags” forever. has anyone seen their website? If you look closely, the picture of the one player’s jersey was switched to the new Icehawks logo instead of the Flags logo. Unless it’s taken from Adirondack a few years ago. And the picture at the top right hand corner has the players backs turned…Kinda funny to me
July 30, 2007 at 12:20 pm
I know Greg I was just going on my annual off season rant to offset all of the “BRING BACK MUTANT X” chants.
Seriously I think the signings so far have been fine.
Dan Price….well….. the guy was the quietest 20 goal scorer I have ever seen. I mean, I got frustrated watching him because he just seemed SLLLLOOOOWWWW compared to the action around him but at the end of that season he had somehow got 20+ goals and was fourth or fifth in scoring on that team. I am not sure I see his style fitting in with Sims but maybe…
I would like to see the Komets get some youth. When you bring in guys like Colin and other vets of his age and with some injury baggage you run the risk of breaking down heading into the playoffs.
Ah the annual Danny Stewart crys…. I was not impressed with him in the past and am not all too interested in seeing him in the present/future. Why does nobody cry to bring back his brother? MUCH better player to go along with the same off ice entertainment.
July 30, 2007 at 1:58 pm
Bobby could at least score goals. Price was hyped as a CHL stud that could score 40+ goals. He didn’t pan out for some reason. I saw signs that he could have but he was never consistant.
July 30, 2007 at 2:55 pm
price went thru the motions and didnt add any scoring punch till late in the season and then he scored quite a bit. maybe he thought his job was on the line and hed better pick it up! nice guy tho, probably like a lot of other chl studs, in a little bit over their heads in the uhl.
July 30, 2007 at 3:09 pm
Old timer trivia:
In the 1971-72 season Tom McVie joined the Komets for 50 games after spending many seasons at several different stops in the old Western Hockey League.
What was his rather “pliable” nickname here? chuckitt?
July 30, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Anybody else? I’ll throw the question open ………
July 30, 2007 at 6:33 pm
The only thing that I will point out about Price in fairness to him is that he, Massie, and Virag were put on a line by the Chief midway through the season and they proceeded to tear the league up for about 7-10 days. It was during that time that Massie had his 4-goal game at home. They just clicked. Then, for no understandable reason, Chief broke up their line and they never skated together the rest of the season. He didn’t get a chance in the playoffs until the last game despite nobody else being able to put the puck in the net consistently. He scored in that game.
July 30, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Bring back Massie while we’re at it!
=) That was just for Tony.
July 30, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Ok but only if they also bring back Joe Franke to compete for the starting job in goal!
July 30, 2007 at 8:25 pm
That will never happen Tony…..not even as waterboy.
Who are some legitimate hockey players in the CHL last year that can score and fight? That is the clues out there for the rumored possible Komets to be signed next……
Anyone got a guess?
Ryan Tobler?
Jonathon Bernier?
Fraser Filipic? Check out this fight…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be-_C-2xQFI
Knockout!!!
July 30, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Good luck getting Filipic. Probably the most respected fighter in the CHL pound per pound. No one leaves Colorado, they get fired. There isn’t a team in the E, C, or I that can compete with their “Quality of life” (a nice way of saying under the table money). I’d take a 15 goal, 250PM guy like him anyday.
Al?

Here is the Knockout I thought I was posting before….Filipic!!!
July 30, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Ouch!! K.O’d! Are you saying that we’re possibly getting this guy?
July 30, 2007 at 9:14 pm
I don’t know….
Cohn’s site someone is claiming we are getting a stud CHL’er that fights and scores and that lots of his fight videos are on UTUBE…..this would be one possibility. Would be nice wouldn’t it?
July 30, 2007 at 9:31 pm
I must say these wild “rumours” are fun. I would like to rumour that an unnamed source from an unnamed city in a rumoured unnamed league told me that several as yet to be named unnamed players will possibly be signed by the Komets on an as yet unnamed time yet to be determined but most likely before the season starts. None of the above can be confirmed or denied.
July 30, 2007 at 9:33 pm
I know who it is…..Rob Guinn?
We are stealing Rob Guinn away from Frenchy? He definitely is a stud CHL’er that is physical…right?
http://www.tulsaoilers.com/news/oilers/show/138
July 30, 2007 at 9:34 pm
No kidding Tony? Wow thanks for that.
July 30, 2007 at 9:54 pm
Please do not bring back Dan Price. I hope whoever started that rumor is starting for a good joke. I mean the only hockey he has been playing is in the plex roller hockey league. On the other hand, if Massie is healthy, bring him back. This would be the type of league he could flourish in. I’m not sure if he is even playing still though. He is a guy that could hit like a truck. I also hope the K’s bring in some youth. Look at how successful Rockford was without that many vets. Has anyone heard anything about Chewdoruk? He could be a 40 goal scorer on a line with Chaulk. Look at what Goodwin did with Chaulk and Chewdoruk is a better player with a ton more speed.
July 30, 2007 at 9:58 pm
Check with the OHIC for any news on Komet “singings” MAN!
Please no more “Give Me Back My Son…err….Dan Price” calls or one blogger might lecture you.
I think Igor Malikyn would be a nice addition…..speed, physical play, Russian……played in the old IHL. I am kidding.
July 30, 2007 at 10:13 pm
skate all i remember is some guys called him pops and then he went on to coach the capitals in the show.
July 30, 2007 at 10:15 pm
Willie Stargell?
July 31, 2007 at 6:52 am
No Price!! Didn’t he start selling cars?
July 31, 2007 at 8:44 am
To play devils advocate, lets say you were a decent minor league hockey player but poor practice habits or taking shifts off caused you to wash out of the game and into the car business. After a couple of years selling cars you realize what a mistake you made and are now motivated to get back into the game and will do whatever you have to do to keep from having to sell cars again. That might get you a hard working player.
All that being said, nobody knows what really happened with Price in Fort Wayne. Maybe he was playing hurt early in the season.
I think it would be a stretch and this is probably just a product of the rumour mill but if Al Sims thinks he can still play, he probably can still play.
July 31, 2007 at 11:08 am
talent is talent and it will rise to the top if it is motivated. you never know. look at the old ihl the last couple of years lots of talent but most of it wasted as guys went thru the motions and got paid. id be more concerned about bertram comming back and burning himself out, no pun intended . if price comes back , he still has to make the team and then keep the management happy. and if he is better than someone else, then bring him on.(sidenote: krispy creme on coldwater closed so if we can get rid of toms by the coliseum then maybe dan will be ok!)
July 31, 2007 at 11:20 am
Don’t say that chuckitt, I love Tom’s
July 31, 2007 at 11:51 am
Looks like some Komet games already rscheduled.
July 31, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Komets website finally has the announcement of Hansen signing.
July 31, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Guys, gotto read this article for the Port Huron Times Herald.
http://www.thetimesherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007707270324
July 31, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Answer to the McVie question:
If you have ever seen a picture of McVie, you’ll understand this better than if you haven’t.
The Komets of that season referrer to McVie as ————–
“Old Rubber Face.”
July 31, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Greg, that was an opinion from one of the former city council, it wasn’t an article. Which leaves the door open……….again.
July 31, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Anyone catch the article calling this league “semi pro” ?
July 31, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Goalie?
Offensive minded D-Man?
Thumper?
Speedsters?
We got needs…..
July 31, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Read where Reeds at Kzoo left the organization to take a coaching job in the OHL. Reason for leaving is he felt that would give him the best chance to move to the AHL/NHL than remaining with the wings and the NEW IHL. Thought that was an interesting comment from a respectable coach in the UHL. They guy has won in Mizzou and in Kzoo…..
July 31, 2007 at 9:53 pm
He is correct though. There are NHL scouts and other personel at OHL games nightly.
July 31, 2007 at 11:23 pm
It just turned August and hockey talk in North East Indiana is heating up.
More signings, less jersey offers and more signings por favor!
August 1, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Hey a job for Chief!! Hey someone may want to tell him to apply the next time they see him eating at Liberty Dinner.
August 1, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Get Komet Warriors brother on the phone MAN! Sccccooooppppsss! Isn’t that his brother? LOL
August 1, 2007 at 11:33 pm

August 2, 2007 at 11:39 am
He’s on one of the branches of your family tree….not mine. Don’t pawn him off on me…..please!
August 2, 2007 at 12:28 pm
Preston Mizzi to play over seas this coming season.
August 2, 2007 at 2:57 pm
So much for the K’s signing this guy.
Stockton, CA – The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the
National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey
League’s Springfield Falcons, has agreed to terms with free-agent
right wing Jesse Bennefield.
August 3, 2007 at 9:50 pm
weve already signed two guys from the draft, averages say that we might sign one more, so any more than that will be unusual. i too will root for elmira if they keep signing uhl guys. ive said all along that the uhl is better then the echl and would really give the ahl a runfor their money>
August 4, 2007 at 2:18 pm
backbackbackback a-rod goes deep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 5, 2007 at 10:19 pm

August 6, 2007 at 11:58 am
Blake is covering city tennis tonight, and is preparing to sweat like a beast tonight. No, I didn’t sleep in. Might have a Komets story tomorrow if it rains. If not, it will be Wednesday.
August 6, 2007 at 12:08 pm
Welcome back Blake. Have fun tonight
August 6, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Welcome back Blake…it never rains…it just pours
August 6, 2007 at 2:11 pm
V for Vendetta. It’s not unchartered waters. It is uncharted. A chart is a map. So uncharted means unknown. You probably saw it wrong on the web. There are a lot of young writers who have heard things. but have no idea what the written word is.
August 6, 2007 at 10:38 pm
doh……………..
August 7, 2007 at 6:28 am
Troy Neumeier left the CHL & signed with the Belfast Giants. I thought he had retired!??!
August 7, 2007 at 10:09 am
money and sights and few games better than retirement!!
August 7, 2007 at 11:35 am
When’s the big goalie announcement coming? Reiter? Martin? Traylen? Lawson? Just to float some ideas…
August 7, 2007 at 12:01 pm
When’s any anouncment coming????
Even some hard info would be nice at this point.
August 7, 2007 at 12:25 pm
No kidding… we need something else to argue about!
I thought Traylen signed somewhere else? I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a K’s sweater, he made us look silly a couple times last season.
August 7, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Supposedly he signed with a team in the CHL but I haven’t seen any hard evidence of that yet.
