Starting lineup

May 28, 2006

Give me your "all-time” Komets UHL team with 10 forwards, six defense and two goalies. Give me lines of three and defensive pairings. Argue amongst yourselves until you can get it down to 18 generally accepted players.

What do you want to talk about?

May 25, 2006

Let’s leave the coach, owner, player bashing to a minimum. We’ve pretty much said all that can be said and it’s obvious that debate can’t be advanced yet.

So pick your topic.

Bump again

May 25, 2006

Blake,

I’m looking for sponsors and or people who wanna walk with me for my son’s cause.

I’m looking for donations from anyone or anywhere I can find them,
can you post this on your blog to maybe generate some talk about it.

On June 25, I am gonna walk in my first MDA walk, as most of you
know, my son has Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. If you are interested in
donating money, or your time on the 25th to walk with my team, please
let me know. My email is Kmtshcky17@hotmail.com.

Any help would be awesome..

Also, the money you donate, you can put towards research for
Duchennes Muscualar Dystrophy, or you can help send a child to Camp. As
I said, anything would be helpful..

Thanks in advance
Mark Shepler and Family

also, my sister will be arrested on May 24 I think, she will be picked
up at her place of employment, and her bond will be set at $1200, she
will be placed in a cell at the old firefighters museum downtown and be
there until she gets "bailed" out. If anyone wants to help bail her
out…please let me know..again my email is
Kmtshcky17@hotmail.com…..all the "bail" money goes towards MDA…

This is really cool

Dscn1883x
This is from Larry Schmidt

Here’s a picture I took at the Hockey Hall of Fame. I’m sure people would like
to see it. I give you my permission to use the shot on the picture page. It
shows Len Thornson’s last jersey, Bruce Boudreau’s Roadrunner jersey, Scott
Gruhl’s stick which he used to break the goal scoring record, the Ken Ullyot
trophy, and in the bottom right corner you will see an Albany Choppers helmet.

The fight game

May 22, 2006

OK, this ought to spark enough discussion here to last a month, and I’m telling you upfront I’m going to play the devil’s advocate role. No name-calling unless it is directed at or from Hit Somebody, whom I think enjoys it. LOL. Play nice and I think we can have a lot of fun with this, but I’m guessing this discussion might get quite emotional. Here goes:

Does fighting hurt hockey as a sport in terms of legitimacy?

Why should two guys on the ice be allowed to get away with something that two fans 15 feet away in the stands would be arrested for and charged? How can a sport that officially endorses breaking the law be legitimate? If you took fighting out of the game, would you lose fans or gain fans, and if that’s the only thing bringing some fans to the game, just how good is that sport? Does fighting really add to the game? (I actually know people who won’t take their kids to games because of fighting.) How does hockey get away from the stereotype of fighting to the broader audience, and it must draw a broader audience?

If you say it’s a physical game, well, so is football and the players control themselves. When do you start to teach players it’s OK to fight? Is it OK for the kids? Why not? If no one gets hurt fighting, why doesn’t everyone do it?

For years the argument is that there would be too much stickwork, but hasn’t that already happened even with fighting? How often do players actually retaliate for stickwork by fighting? If fighting is gradually decreasing anyway, how much worse would it be just to eliminate it completely?

How do you explain it to friends who ask about fighting?

BTW, does anybody out there know why fighting was included in the game originally? I’m curious. OK, so have at it.

An idea from Tony

May 20, 2006

If you had the money to spend, where would you put an expansion team? It can be in any league, but of course we’re particularly interested in the UHL. Take into consideration the city’s history with minor league sports, facilities, proximity, etc. Because you are the ones putting up the money, we’ll assume that you all have an extra $3 million to lose. LOL.

Any ideas?

And I still haven’t heard a compelling reason why the league offices should have to move. Give me some sound financial reasons.

Adirondack is up against it

May 18, 2006

The mayor of Glens Falls and Barry Melrose came up with a plan of asking 1,500 fans to pay $1,000 each to keep the team going. I’m not even sure that could be done here. Do you think we could find 1,500 people to do that if we had to?

That’s an awful lot of hair product.

Oh, crap, who am I to be making fun of someone else’s hair. At least he had hair.

Player meetings

May 18, 2006

Komets President Michael Franke said Thursday that General Manager David Franke has met with players Kevin St. Pierre and Colin Chaulk, but nothing has been decided about next season.

“Anybody that we’re talking to right now we tell them to just be patient and we’ll get back to them after the league meetings,” Franke said. “Let’s figure out the lay of the land first in the league.”
