  1. me Says:

Whats that say? Could you please translate Blake?

  2. Blake Says:

Beats the heck out of me which is why I thought it was interesting. That supposedly IS the translated version.

  3. Greg Says:

Good luck in Italy Colin. I wish you well. You did great things for the Komets and in the community.

  4. Greg Says:

And now playing forward number 91

    Jim Duhart.

Sorry, but I had to do it.

  5. zambonio Says:

Mud is clear too as me to.

  6. zambonio Says:

Good luck Chaulker, we’ll miss you, whoever we say it!!

  7. me Says:

Been born player of left stick… Thats the best line in there.

  8. zambonio Says:

    Oops!! However we say it!!!

  9. K's Says:

Trying to read that made me eyes bleed

  10. TONY E Says:

I am glad he made this decision early enough in the summer so the Komets can spend their time and money finding players who want to play here.
Thank you Colin for your efforts and play while you were here.
This chapter in Komets history is closed. Time to move on….

  11. ilovehockey Says:

Best of Luck Colin. You will be dearly missed.

  12. Rick Says:

I am very disappointed that it has come to this. I will miss seeing Colin in a K’s sweater. I don’t think we will miss him totally too long though. I think the plan is one year in Europe to make some good money for one year while the Komets’ rights to him expire, then finish his career playing for Mark Reeds as a Kzoo Wing beginning with the 2007-08 season.

  13. TONY E Says:

I wonder if Fort Wayne is considered a base metal or a composite? Alloys???

I guess you can’t blame Chaulk for wanting one more big paycheck before his career closes out. Rick makes sense with his theory as long as that rule regarding players going to Europe and coming back (like Mark Smith) doesn’t apply here.

  14. Greg Says:

Tony E. I think that rule only applies if you start hte season in the UHL and leave for Europe. Then you can’t play for the rest of that year and the next.

But, your right that Rick brings up a good point. Does Chaulks original contract still count and his rights remain with the Komets for the entire year?

  15. Jason Says:

I actually figured I would come on here and see people in an uproar over the Frankes “screwing” Chaulk. I am pleasantly surprised although I am sure some will come on here and want to blame the Frankes, just like for everything else.

Personally, I have no problem with this. He had a great run of four years here and he was, in my opinion, the best player we have had here since joining the UHL. While some probably think we will not be able to replace Chaulk, the beauty of minor league hockey is that there are always new guys out there who are just as good, if not better, just waiting for the opportunity to shine or lead a team.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Komets are going to be in the top 2 teams in the league this year and will be there in the end. The reason is because the Frankes were embarrassed by last season (which really wasnt a terrible year by any means), and they are refocusing all of their efforts into making the Komets a champion again. You can tell how bad they want to win again.

I am excited about the upcoming year.

  16. Greg Says:

    Well said Jason.

BUt just wait, the moaning, and complaining, and Franke bashing will probably happen.

  17. me Says:

Would all of you be against a Mark Smith return? I know he left the team when they needed him. But he did put goals n the board. I am not saying I would or would not bring him back, just a thought.

  18. Greg Says:

I wouldn’t be against it, but it’s a moot point. He’s not allowed back until the 07-08 season.

  19. Burgee Says:

    Ditto Jason, well said.

I hate to see everyone go, but the thought of a new coach and retooled team are very exciting, should make for an exciting year.

All i want to happen next year is beat martinson and the pigs to a pulp every game, make the playoffs and win the cup.

  20. Burgee Says:

Smith abandoned the team and the fans. If you give your word and sign a contract and commit to play you should stay. If he was going to go to Europe he should have in the first place, i look at it as though he took the komet paycheck until the bigger one was available then bolted.

  21. Mark Says:

Boy, this hurts right now, Chaulker was by far my favorite player. He will be missed by me..Good Luck Chaulker…

As Jason said, it will be a new era of Fort Wayne Komet hockey..This has got me excited..

    GO KOMETS

  22. me Says:

I agree Burgee. But what do people do in the “real” workplace all the time….they work at a place..get a better offer and bolt. I know there was a contract signed and all but the K’s could’ve traded him or cut him at anytime. So the contract doesn’t mean much. I do not agree with what he did but money drives people…
    Greg,
    I forgot about that

  23. Teresa Says:

This is a VERY sad day for me. Chaulker was by far my favorite player since I’ve returned to the Fort. I will miss him tremendously. He played his heart out for this organization while he was here and made a great impact on the community, too. He will be sorely missed. Best wishes, Chaulker!

  24. JR Says:

    This sucks……

  25. Komet Warrior Says:

I cant believe this MAN! This was MY favorite komet. Lots of bad things have started to happen ever since Coach Puhalski went to Chicago. My friend told me that he can come back since Franke tore up his contract and offered him a smaller salary price. This is why they are talking to St. Piere now since they have more money left over.

  26. hobo Says:

MAN!!!Less pay and no commitment drove him away.

  27. Shawn Says:

I am not happy that Colin left, however I do understand why he left and I kind of understand why the team “let him go”. This will truly be the New Look Komets this next season. Monday will not get here fast enough, I am tired of hearing who is not coming back, I want to start to hear who is going to be here in 06-07!!!

  28. Kometfan Says:

Or they are talking to St. Pierre now because Michel Robinson signed with Italy?!

Sucks to see Colin gone, but everyone has to admit that a lot of us knew this would happen. With the hard cap occuring and Duhart coming in, I can see why Colin wants to play in Italy. Best of luck!

  29. TONY E Says:

Hobo commitment works both ways. Chaulk actions show he was after the paycheck instead of being commited to seeing this team get better. That is his choice and it is a choice many people in all walks of life make everyday. But don’t make it out like he was this poor wronged player who got screwed over by management because that isn’t the way the Frankes do business.

  30. Greg Says:

Jason Tapp resigned by Quad Cities.

  31. TONY E Says:

There is a guy who I think the only reason has not been looked at to play at a level above the UHL is his height.

  32. Greg Says:

Give another couple of years. If he’s as consistant he may yet get a shot.

BTW Tony, don’t bother with Hobo.

People-we really don’t for sure know why Colin signed with the team in Italy, we can specualte, but let’s wait until Blake put’s it in writing before we all go off half-cocked. This item was great with people giving their feelings and emotions then a couple started in as to why Colin left. Why not let either the Frankes or Colin tell us, then we can discuss it. For now just say how you feel.

  33. hobo Says:

I wasnt trying to say that Tony, I was saying with the new cap there would be less money and in previous years he had in writing or verbally from the Franke’s that he wouldnt be let go(sorry greg). I m not a mgmt basher. Business in business. If you got offered more money to do what you do now and get to go to Italy and all over Europe, what would you do?
Oh and the MAN!!! was for komet warrior

  34. hobo Says:

    greg
Why not bother with me? ya know what nevermind we dont have to go that way. i know what i know and you know what’s in the papers.

  35. Greg Says:

Okay hobo, first off, the salary cap is HIGHER than last year not lower. I got that from the paper. I also know that the Komets came in under the cap, or so they said to Blake. Second, If written contracts aren’t binding in the UHL then niether are verbal contracts.

    I can’t believe I’m getting into this.

Tony-any thought to because Tapp being signed by the MAllards had the Frankes calling St. Pierre?

  36. hobo Says:

I can’t either….now its in Blakes hands to find out. I’m not trying to be a pr*ck, I’m just stating what I heard. You are the one trying to make me look like a fool. I know I did it myself, right?
    ANYWAY
How about the Franke’s didn’t offer more or whatever because they did not know how his achilles would affect him this year?

  37. Greg Says:

That’s a vaild argument once we find out from either the Frankes or Colin as to why he didn’t sign. Right know all we know is that Colin’s going to play in Italy and that there was a contract issue or issues that caused him not to sign.

And for all those that think the Frankes didn’t want Chualk a back this season, you’ll have to prove to me why yuo think that way.

  38. hobo Says:

wooo wooo he wanted a no trade clause..
greg not everybody makes stuff up just to get people upset.

  39. TONY E Says:

Greg I am not sure how hard the Komets were looking at Tapp. Certainly a quality goalie. A couple of years from now he will be too old. 5 foot 8 goalies went the way of Allan Bester and Darren Pang.
Hobo now that you explained your comments they make more sense. I really do though have a big problem with a AA minor league hockey player in a no guarantee contract league thinking he should get a no trade clause. Hockey players and everyone else in the working world get traded/released everyday. If he wants a job where he doesn’t have to worry about that…well I don’t know of one.

  40. Greg Says:

Sylvain Daigle wasn’t the jolly green giant yet he managed to win 2 cups in a row. And if I’m not mistaken Joe Damiline who Frenchy passed for the all time shutout lead was under 6 foot as well.

I think given the right circumstances, Tapp could proser in this league and go higher.

  41. TONY E Says:

Joe was a hell of a goalie. I think if he had been playing on 2002-03 instead of the local kid from up here (tired now and can’t remember his name lol) they might have given the Komets a better run.
The two guys you mentioned both had a hard time getting above AA and it wasn’t because of ability. There is a perception on height (heck I am only 5’5 so I have experience with it lol) that smaller goalies no matter how quick can’t cover the net as well as a bigger. I was told from the time I was 13 I would never see anything above AA Junior ( a step below the OHL) because of my size. You have to admit Frenchy looked intimidating just standing in the net because of his size.
Tapp is in his late 20’s so even the AHL is probably out. He could be a guy like Alban (and now Chaulk) who goes overseas and makes a nice living in his 30’s. Here, maybe the ECHL might be the best he can do. It stinks but it is the “system” One thing about the UHL I can say ever since the Komets have been in the league is that there has been great goaltenders all over the place.

  42. Skate Says:

If those Eye-talians want to sign “our” players, they aought to learn to talk and write in American. (The good ol’ YEW-ESS of A)

We kick their butts in WWII (The BIG ONE! We wuz in THAT one to WIN) and now they get their revenge.

  43. TONY E Says:

LOL!! Thanks Skate we all needed that 😉

  44. Hmmmmmm Says:

TONY KNOWS EVERYTHING!!!! LONG LIVE TONY!!!

  45. Jungle Monkey Says:

If you want to be a tough guy you shouldn’t hide behind a fake email address.

  46. big man Says:

    You tell him jungle monkey!

  47. Jungle Monkey Says:

Blake, you really need to do something about this blog to keep these kids out until school starts back up. Someone’s Xbox must be broken..
