Who looks good so far

October 3, 2006

Because of his speed and hustle, there’s no doubt which player
has stood out the most after the first two days of the Fort Wayne Komets’
training camp. Forward Pascal Morency has been all over the ice.

“He can skate and he knows the speed that I’m asking him to play
at, and he shows it in every drill,’’ Komets coach Pat Bingham said. “I’d like
for the other guys to recognize the speed and intensity that he does things
because that’s what it’s going to take and nothing less. He’s not the only one,
but he gets it.’’

Morency sat out most of last year with a broken hand and might
have the best conditioning of any player. In fact, he worried about getting too
muscular this summer so he spent extra time boxing six days a week instead of

Bingham said forwards Kelly Miller and rookie Martin Gascon have
also looked sharp, and said also complimented Jonathan Goodwin, saying he sees
all the little things he does well. Veteran defensemen Guy Dupuis and Mario
Larocque have also looked good.

“There’s no question on the back end that our veterans, Dupuis
and Larocque are our guys who understand how to be a player and what it
takes,’’ Bingham said. “They’ve done a good job of listening to what I’m
asking them to do and setting the example. It’s going to be up to the rest of
them to follow, but I like their leadership ability.’’

Bingham also had a chance to work with his goaltenders before
practice. Kevin St. Pierre may be having the best of his four training camps
with the Komets.

“There’s a reason he’s been a good goaltender in this league for
a lot of years,’’ Bingham said. “He usually fills the net pretty good, but he
also gets across that net pretty good from one side to the next, and that’s not
with him probably at his peak shape. He looked good in there. There was a
little glimmer in my eye today when I watched him do a couple of things, and
that’s important.’’

Let me say this in preseason… Pascal is my dogg, yo!

  2. Tony E Says:

I am not surprised. People I have talked to said that Pascal put in the right situation will run through walls for his team.

  3. JungleMonkey Says:

That’s all we ask for…. I’m looking forward to seeing Pascal in action.

  4. Tony E Says:

I also believe Goneau will remind people on the offensive end of D.A.B. but will also play defence.

  5. blake Says:

I tell you what, I’m very impressed with the way Goneau handles himself. Tip-top shape.

  6. Greg Says:

Goneau has that NHL expierence so he knows how to take care of himself.

Glad to hear things are startingto come together.

Any word on when Richardson will begin to practice?

  7. Farmer Says:

Is the exibition games going to be on B2?

  8. blake Says:

Richardson is on the ice now. He’s in phenominal shape.

I don’t believe the exhibitions will be on the B2, but not positive. There’s no radio so there wouldn’t be any audio for sure.

  9. Greg Says:

Great Article on Kelly BTW Blake. I think he will be a guy that sticks unless he just doesn’t play well.

  10. Brandan Says:

Hey Blake…is the “other blog” (Ice Chips) dead?

  11. Shawn Says:

Sorry, Shawn, can’t let you do that. My bosses would probably have a fit. Let’s just say there are ways to find it.

  12. SMITTY Says:

This guy Pascal is like a non scoring JIMMY BOOHART, i watched him at flint and i wanted to beat his butt. he tried to bib jeff to go a couple of times but it never went down. he will be well liked here in the fort. i know i will.

  13. Skate Says:

“Competition” between the 2 blogs is silly.

Look, everyone here reads and posts to both of them. To pretend one doesn’t exist or make it harder for people to find each other’s blog is childish. (Not directed at Blake)

  14. JungleMonkey Says:

Folks… calm down, JungleMonkey appears on both! You can have your cake and eat it too. Is Warrior buy the beer at tonights game?

  15. Hit Somebody!!! Says:

Drop the Puck….I am pumped up….for a pre-season game???? Wow…I really am. Enough talk…let’s see some hockey finally. Wonder what the crowd will look like tonight? I would bet that there will be at least a half full building, that isn’t bad for pre-season. More than a full arena in most all the other towns.
