Tuesday at camp

October 7, 2008

A few notes for you.

* Defenseman Alexandre Dulac has left camp.

* Forward Jean-Philippe Roy Vallieres wants to be known as J.P. Roy from here on out.

* Dominic Osman and Jay Holladay have both arrived, and both are outstanding players. Osman scored a goal and hit a post in the scrimmage today. Coach Al Sims said Osman is playing at American League speed right now, and goalie Nick Boucher said, “He can really shoot the puck. He has an AHL-caliber shot. I think he’ll score a lot of goals for us. His release is exceptional. He’ll catch a lot of goalies sleeping this year.”

* It was kind of funny watching the forwards come down one-on-one against Jake Pence, thinking they could muscle him out of the way, and then he’d calmly pick their pocket every time. Olivier Legault also looked extremely good, and Kevin Bertram is in mid-season form.

* Defenseman Jason Beckett sat out with sore knees from tendenitis.

* Asked for a general impressions, Sims said, “I like Gravelle’s energy, I like Varone’s energy. Both are smaller centermen but really skate and have a good nose for the puck. They are both physical players. Matheson had two goals today. He’s got great hands and a great shot in tight. He’s playing really well. Boulay is a great skater on defense, Tarantino is a heady defenseman. Holladay is a great skater. We’ve got some great skaters on the back end. Chromy is 6-7, Moronivic 6-2, 6-3. You’ll see all these kids tomorrow and you’ll get a better look at them. Nobody is here who shouldn’t be here. Everyone is playing well enough to warrant a look at this level.”

* Sebastien Laplante and Tim Haun both pitched shutouts in the scrimmage, and Boucher allowed three goals that Sims said he had no chance on.

* Sims said he hasn’t been able to wear anyone out so far. “I’ve skated them hard the last two days and they look good. I can’t tucker them out and nobody is puking so far.”

Oh another thing the new web interface looks great on the Komets website however do they really need the arrow to signify a drop down menu? That just looks terrible, only complaint though.
